      FAQs

Is getting the MBTA Semester Pass right for me?
From a cost-benefit perspective, you may consider purchasing a CharlieCard through the MBTA; load it with cash to pay for fares if they are infrequent. If you believe you will be using MBTA services daily, then the Semester Pass Program is most likely right for you. The Semester Pass Program offers discounted rates of the regular monthly pass price.

If you only need to use the Green Line and other Subway lines, along with Local Bus routes, and not any of the commuter rail stops, we recommend the LinkPass instead of the Zone 1A pass.

Which pass is right for me?
We recommend you use the MBTA's Trip Planner tool to find trip suggestions. Based on the information from the Trip Planner you can identify which passes offer the services you may need (Subway, Bus, Commuter rail, etc.).

You can also learn more about various passes and fare information on the MBTA's College and University Student Guide page. More information is available on the MBTA website.
